100k Ride for a Great Cause

I am so proud of Daddy-dog because this past Sunday he rode in his first 100k!!  Woof-hoo!

Daddy-dog rode in the Tour de Broward with several friends to help raise money for Joe DiMaggio's Children's Hospital in Hollywood, Florida.  The riding team was sponsored by Trane - the air conditioner people - who provided the team with riding jerseys with the motto, "Its hard to stop a Trane".

Daddy-dog had been training for this ride for months and we were so excited on Sunday morning for him to get there and get going!!!

Daddy-dog also did some fundraising and was able, with the help of family and friends, to raise over $700 for the "Dreams" unit of the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital - a unti that cares specifically for kids diagnosed with cancer.  It is a great hospital; it:
  • is a Center for Excellence for Cardiac Treatment and is the only hospital in Broward and Palm Beach Counties performing pediatric open heart surgery;
  • has a prestigious Pediatric Dialysis Program and is the only program for treatment of young patients experiencing kidney failure and end-stage renal disease in Broward and Palm Beach Counties;
  • is a designated Center of the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and provides some of the latest treatment protocols for pediatric Cystic Fibrosis patients; and
  • is 1 of only 13 Pediatric Trauma Centers in the State of Florida.

The ride started at 7:30 am and there were over 500 cyclists raring to go!!!!

And then the horn sounded and they were off!!!  We lost Daddy-dog in the swarm of cyclists immediately, but we did catch Spencer and others from the team.

Then, and this is why I am so proud...3.5 hours later Daddy-dog and Spencer came through the finish line!!  100k in 3.5 hours - and this was his very first time riding such a distance.  OMD! *zoomies around*

Woof-hoo!!!!
I am so proud of Daddy-dog!!!
