I live in a community where the Association's Rules state that you must scoop your dog's poop. However, I think I could count on one paw (maybe two) how many people actually scoop the poop around here. (I could also count on one paw how many people actually follow the Rules associated with keeping your dog on a leash but that is another post!)
Ma always scoops my poop. We have had my fire hydrant poop bag dispenser for well...forever, it seems.
I am Leading the Pack
The other day, Bentley's mom (yes, Bentley...not Bailey as I originally posted in my Wordless Wednesday post the other week...oops!) got the same poop bag dispenser. They always scoop the poop too and Bentley's mom said she just thought our fire hydrant dispenser was so cute, she had to have one too.
Me and Bentley (not Bailey...doh!) |
Maybe I need to go on a mission in my community to get everyone a cute poop bag dispenser?!? Do you think that would encourage more people to scoop the poop??
We have two poop bag dispensers! |
For Dog's (and Human's) Sake
I bet many people do not even realize all the icky things living in dog poop. Some of those icky things will make other dogs sick...but some of the other icky things can actually make humans sick too. (Ma was a nurse so maybe she can help me write a post or two that provides the SCOOP on the parasites and bugs THAT can live in POOP.)
My good friend Sugar the Golden Retriever started the Scoop That Poop Campaign to encourage everyone to pick up after their dog. Along with Gizmo from Terrier Torrent and Garth from The World According to Garth Riley, we are spreading the word.
Today, Sugar and Garth are both hosting separate giveaways on their blogs...you can win poop bags and poop dispensers. They are pretty cool too so hop over and check them out!
Do you have a post that fits in with our Scoop That Poop Campaign?!? Please add it to the blog hop at the end of my post and share it with everyone.
Also, please don't forget to head over to Ku's blog today to learn about writing the different types of poetry so you can enter our Bad Poetry Day Contest which starts this Friday!
Momma is very well-trained and always scoops for us. We agree about the cute bags, too. Cinderella's has little pink skull & crossbones on it!
ReplyDeleteHiya' Oz! Thanks for pawticipating in the blog hop! Mom loves the fire hydrant poop bag dispenser but we didn't know that Pruven makes poop bags too!
ReplyDeleteGarth
Hiya Oz! so glad you joined our Scoop That Poop campaign! The more we get the word out the better and maybe we can make a difference...I've got a giveaway too pal, just late in getting posted today ;) I do love your little red hydrant...it's really adorable
ReplyDeleteI love the fire hydrant! I'm really hoping that there are poop bags and a dispenser in my swag bag at Bark World. We don't walk the dogs, but my mom walks her little Honey and tucks plastic grocery bags into her pocket. This is so much better.
ReplyDeleteFlea is coming to BarkWorld! Yay! Happy Wiggles!

Pepper
Wooooowooooo! Ku
ReplyDeleteMy neighborhood has those same "must scoop the poop" rules. They even go so far as to provide many poop stations that have top-quality poop bags available as well as a trash can. And you know what gets me the most? You will find a big, huge dog poop not 3 feet from the poop station! The lazy SOB who was walking their dog couldn't even be bothered to bend over and clean up when the bag and trash is just an arm's length away! GRRRRR!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe always Poop then scoop.. Our park is full of it, so we have to find other places to go xx00xx Great post Oz x
ReplyDeleteMollie and Alfie
I think everyone has to find their own best poop solution. Some have bags in pockets, some tie them on the leash, some have a dispenser, we just put tape over our back ends so nothing comes out to pick up. Just kidding! People just are lazy, and that is the problem. On another note, I started my bad poem...I'm afraid it may be a good poem, though...we will see when I finish and post later this week.
ReplyDeleteYou Mom and I would make a great poop-writing team. I am a water quality specialist (natural surface water). I could write about all the water quality problems abandoned poop can cause and your Mom could be specific about what is actually in the poop (I don't know...just know it is "bad stuff".
ReplyDeleteI scoop my poop! I keep a roll of bags on each leash :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Pepper
Wish more people would , specially in our park. Have a marvellous Monday Oz.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
The fire hydrant is a cute bag dispenser and I love that it's not your only one, lol... TWO bag dispensers!
ReplyDeleteYou knoooow... getting people bags/dispensers might not be a bad idea to encourage people to pick it up. Might get rather expensive doing the dispensers, but perhaps leaving a roll of bags on everyone's doorstep that you know doesn't pick up after their dogs. Some people just need a kick in the pants... and it would be "nice" kick in the pants.
Honestly, I don't care what they carry to pick it up, just pick the poop up. Don't just leave it there. My neighbors are rude and just leave their stuff. I'm fortunate enough Titan only poops in his own back yard and yes, I scoop it there too! Leaving it is just rude and can lead to diseases.
ReplyDeleteI agree! It is so rude to just leave it. We scoop! Every dog owner needs to scoop. I hate mowing my front yard and finding poop in it! Stella never leaves hers anywhere; we scoop it. It is the right thing to do!
ReplyDeleteWe always scoop the poop...and lots of it with ten pups in our pack. BOL
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you don't live where I live? I am in a condo/apt complex and we have "Association" rules too. You wouldn't believe (or maybe you would!) the number of people who do not pick up their poop!
ReplyDeleteYou are right about the leashes too. I got into an argument with a woman when I asked her to please put her dog on a leash because she comes walking by our condo (doesn't live in our building) and her dog drives Dakota NUTS when he sees it offleash!
Great post Oz, love your fire hydrant poop bag holder. I started using poop bag holders when I got them free at a conference so giving them away might just do the trick.
ReplyDeleteWe have one of those fire hydrant dispensers, too! BOL! Actually, we have quite a collection of them, because you just can't have too many!
ReplyDeleteBunny
Well I'm glad your Ma picks up your poo after you Oz. Looks like your teaching your new friend some great tricks too :)
ReplyDeleteRingy Dingy Oz The Great and Powerful ~ Lee always scoops my poop! Unfortunately too many people put the poop bags in the storm sewer grates and the city has to keep cleaning them out because they are causing the sewer to stop up. I think you are fined now if caught. Moral to the story seems to be poop before you leave home if you don't want to carry a stinky sack a long way.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a friend
Sweet William The Scot
Mom says HBO words when there is poop laying around. She wanted to put in on the peoples doorstep
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
Most people in my neighborhood pick up after their dog. But this one man and his two little Poms doesn't and it drives me nuts! He thinks that just because his dogs' poops are little that it is okay. People have already talked to him but it does no good. I was thinking about getting some sidewalk chalk and writing on the sidewalk in front of his house and leaving a roll of dog poop bags as a gift.
ReplyDeleteLove your fire hydrant bag dispenser :-)
ReplyDeleteUgh, we have this same icky problem where I live, Oz! It makes mom and dad so frustrated :( Once, on the radio, we heard about a community that uses DNA testing to know which dog the poop belongs to and then the owners have to pay money for not cleaning up! Clever :)
ReplyDeleteThat fire hydrant is really cute! There's a trail I sometimes take my dogs to walk on near my house that requires people to pick up their poop too. A lot of people ignore the sign, even though they also provide bags. I'm always worried that that they'll be out of bags when I go, so I always bring a stash of my own.
ReplyDeleteGolden LOVE the blog title. Golden Thanks for deciding on joining us. How cute is your fire hydrant poop bad dispenser. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteLOL love the title of your post! Love you poop bag holder...cute.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this post! It shows that there are cute and clever ways to pick up your dog's poop! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...do that be enuff gear Oz my pal.....our poo patrol members is fitted wiv da haz mat soots and masks....BOL
