Today is a Wordy Wednesday for me since I will be leaving on
another great, long-weekend adventure tomorrow.
If I do not make it to your blog for a visit before I leave, I do
apologize.
Anyway, I wanted to remind you all that this Sunday, the
second Sunday in September, is National Pet Memorial Day.
Established by the International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories (IAOPC), National Pet Memorial Day is a day
for pet owners to celebrate the lives of their lost, beloved pets.
National Pet Memorial Day is a great opportunity to help
bring closure on a recently deceased pet.
It is also a great opportunity to remember the life and the
unconditional love of the pets that have gone Over the Rainbow Bridge.
Do you have a pet Over the Rainbow Bridge?
If so, you can use National Pet Memorial Day to:
Remember
Take time to reflect on the amazing relationship you
shared. Talk about some fond memories
and share photos.
Donate or Volunteer
Honor the memory of your beloved pet by helping other pets
find their forever homes. You can donate
to or volunteer at an animal welfare organization or shelter.
Visit
If you buried your pet, visit the site and possibly hold a
short memorial service. Let the warm memories
fill your heart.
Plant
Memorialize your pet by finding a peaceful spot in your yard
and planting a small garden or tree in their honor.
You can also visit the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association's website to see if there are any
National Pet Memorial Day observances/events near you. I checked and there aren't any events near
me...actually, there are only a handful of events scheduled throughout the
Country.
And though it is sad to talk about...if you are preparing for a pet's journey to the Rainbow Bridge, and you are allowed to bury your pet on your property (or like many I know, you bury a pet on your property no matter what), there is a new company that offers all-natural, biodegradable burial pods.
Paw Pods products are 100 % eco-friendly made from biodegradable bamboo or rice husk which can hold the smallest goldfish to an extra-large dog as well as cremated ashes. Each pod or urn comes with a sympathy card as well as a seeded leaf to be planted with your beloved pet. The seeded leaf blooms yearly into wildflowers as a living memorial to a beloved pet.
So, will you be celebrating the life of a lost, beloved pet
this Pet Memorial Day?
If so, I hope it will fill your heart with the smiles of
happy times spent together and the unconditional love only a pet can give.
I love that there is a special day to remember pets who have departed over the rainbow bridge.

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting about this OZ. We have a special memorial area at home for our pugs waiting at the bridge. Mom just took some pictures the other day and was wondering about an appropriate time to post about it. This is perfect.

Did not know about that special day, but around our house it seems like we have memorial time quite often. Mom is always jabbering to us about her other dog or past cats. It is nice to know we won't ever be forgotten but good to know there is a special day, maybe she can focus more on that day.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely idea :)
ReplyDeleteI have heard about the Paw Pods too Oz and they really do sound nice. I wish we had something like them at the clinic where I used to work. We had to rummage around for "nice" boxes for all the little furries, birdies, and reptiles that had passed away so we could send them home somewhat nicely.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great reminder! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend adventure, and a lovely Wordless Wednesday! Hugs, Francesca
That was a very touching post Oz, I didn`t know about that. Have fun on your adventure!
ReplyDeleteWe were just talking about how much we miss our last girl, Abby. We'll definitely be thinking of her.
ReplyDeleteWe will be thinking of all our Blogville pals that have passed. Have a great adventure Oz xx0xxx
ReplyDeleteMollie and Alfie
We think of our Inigo all the time, but it's nice to have a special day to remember him.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this. I'd never heard of it and we, for sure, will be celebrating.
ReplyDeleteDid not know that? Lots of Golden Thanks. Many of our friends in the Blogville left us and will be remembering them. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteLee has Wee Robbie buried in a pet cemetery and Half Pence in a cherry urn in her bedroom. No way is easy and personally Pet Pods to leave an animal behind when you move does not sound great to Lee. There is not a day goes by that she does not think of them or say good night to them like she does me. Lee carries them in her heart always. This post made us very sad. Blessings Oz
