Can you believe that I am almost 10 years old and I have never had a puzzle toy? Well, not until recently that is...after Ma went to Global Pet Expo and met none other than Nina Ottosson, the creator of some great Dog Activity Toys.
Ms. Ottosson was super nice! Ma spoke with her for a while about all the different toys she has designed that are meant to stimulate a dog's brain while reinforcing their relationship with people. Since I have been deprived of such great toys in the past, Ms. Ottosson recommended I try the Dog Tornado.
The Dog Tornado has a level of difficulty of 2. It has four layers of rotating bones and in three of those layers there are compartments where Ma can hide treats. Once I rotate the bones, I reveal the treats and get a reward.
That sounds easy, right? Well, once you get the hang of it there are little bone shapes that fit in the compartments to keep a layer from spinning. This is when you really need to use that big dog brain...because you need to remove the little bone to be able to reveal the treats hidden in the rest of the puzzle.
Ma started by just adding one bone shape into one of the compartments. I got stopped in my tracks for a bit and I really had to think about what to do! BOL As I get better at removing the little bone, then Ma will add another one so there are two...making it a bit more difficult.
Ma loves the Dog Tornado because it is plastic and completely washable! I just really love playing with my Dog Tornado. It is fun to sniff out the compartments filled with treats and then spin the toy to get at them. See:
Nina Ottosson Philosophy
Ma and I love Ms. Ottosson's philosophy that a "dog has four legs and one head, and all five need activity in different ways - both physical and mental". So true!
Ms. Ottosson's toys:
- will exercise a dog's mind and body;
- can help prevent and reduce problem behavior;
- help prevent and reduce weight problems;
- will strengthen the dog-human bond; and
- will prevent boredom.
Now, remember how I said Ma thought Ms. Ottosson was super nice? She really is...and do you know why? Because she is letting me giveaway one Dog Tornado toy to one of my readers! Some dog is going to be very lucky because this toy is such fun.
Do you play with Dog Activity Toys? Do you want a Nina Ottosson Dog Tornado toy?
Then enter the Rafflecopter for your chance to win! You can come back every day to tweet about the giveaway for additional entries. Good luck!

that does sound like a neat puzzle - Dweeb is a master of such things - he figures them out in seconds - me - I just look at mom and say "you have got to be dogging right - use my advanced intellect on a meager puzzle" works every time and she just gives me a treat anyway. I must admit - I do love my Orbee ball puzzle though
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun Oz. Great demo video. Have a terrific Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Bailey had a hard time with the one you have to move the bones to get the treat. Katy is very treat possessed and mastered it in no time. Looks like this would be fun.
ReplyDeleteNina Ottosson makes the best toys for smart dogs, that's for sure. And everything is made with love :o) Good luck to all clever doggies, we should have a toy competition once :o) Have a great tuesday, Oz.

We have two brainy, high-energy dogs, and Nina Ottosson's toys look perfect for them! Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever Oz. But frankly it would be easier for you to get the treat without all the puzzle. What's wrong with just relaxing and napping. These people really do know how to put us dogs to work LOL.
ReplyDeleteoMD OZ you are REALLY good at this puzzle. WE love puzzles... they are FUN to play on Rainy or Snowy days. We have NEVER seen this on before. It is exciting fur SURE.
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks like fun! I lvoe puzzles.
ReplyDeleteI never had a puzzle toy. Looks like I'm missing out on some yummy fun. I hope I win… this is sooooooo exciting.

I am always looking for ways to keep my dogs' minds busy. I have seen and read about these toys before, but have never used one.
ReplyDeleteNow that my pyrs are getting past their puppy phase, I'll have to try something like this again. We got a similar toy in the past for Mauja and all she did was chew the toy and leave the treats. Even if they were her favorite treats! What a stinker...
ReplyDeleteMom and I like Ms. Nina's quote too. Oz not only are you handsome you are smart...bravo for finding the treats.
ReplyDeleteMom might see if they have something for kitties. MOL....I got news for her I'm a diva I am served...but she thinks I would hunt for treats. MOL we'll see
Hugs Madi your bfff
What a cute video, the music is perfect too! I bet Bailie and I would enjoy that game!
ReplyDeleteWhy would we love it, because we like to use our noses and Bailie loves puzzles.
ReplyDeleteWhat an ingenious and fabulous toy! We agree, these things help shelter animals - especially the high energy/intelligence ones - a LOT. Keeps them from getting bored (and into trouble, MOL!).
ReplyDeleteThat is a super fun looking toy Oz! Thanks so much for sharing and giving us the opportunity to win it! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteI want to win b/c i need something to tire my dog out mentally.
ReplyDeletehe's so anxious,he needs to relax.

I'd love for my dogs to be able to use a puzzle toy. It would stimulate their minds and keep them busy. With my Kyoko, who is a 5-year-old rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound who had nearly been starved to death before I adopted her, I think it would help make her "work" for her treats - she tends to "inhale" any food or treats I give to her. She's actually overweight now so I'm trying to find ways to get her to slow down her eating (and she's on diet dog food and treats).
ReplyDeleteHat is darn i impressive Tornado Oz!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteOh my dog! I want this toy for my huskies because I think they would have a blast with it!!!!!!

The reason I want Nina Ottosson Dog Tornado is that me and my dogs have enjoyed some of her other dog games and we would love to have more.
ReplyDeleteI have a little terrier who could use a way to get out some of her energy between walks and regular play sessions.
ReplyDeleteDat toy looks like it would be fun!
ReplyDeleteI love my puzzle toy. I don't think Ms. Nina made it though, so I'd love to try another one!
ReplyDeleteI Want The Nina Ottosson Dog Tornado Because It Would Be A Great Interactive Game That My Fur-Babies Would Enjoy! Rafflecopter Entry Name- Heather Hayes Panjon
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a wee lad mom bought me game you had to knock it over for treats. Mom said I would give up on it and walk away. She has been looking for something that I can do on my own and this just might be the thing. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Oh Oz that toy really looks like fun. I love your video! You are just too precious!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love that! I have 3 toys by them, and I figure them out incredibly fast (my record is 2 minutes on a level 3 toy set to the hardest setting).
ReplyDeleteNola
Wow, this looks like a puzzle toy that may take Dory a bit of work before she figures it out! Thanks for the wonderful review!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Oh, I would LOVES to give this toy a try! Every puzzle toy Ma buys me I figure out too fast and gets bored. This one looks better! Thou, I don't thinks I'm on the same level and The King of Puzzles Goose!! BOL
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥
Because this would give my dog mental stimulation and it would take him awhile to eat the treats.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get my paws on such a cool puzzle toy! I like to use my sniffer for finding treats, and it's even more fun when there's a challenge cuz you never know when you'll find another one!
ReplyDeleteI want to see if I can find a puzzle toy that will actually keep Mr. N occupied for longer than a minute!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win because this looks like a great engaging toy.

ReplyDeleteThis looks too complicated for me!
ReplyDeleteRuby
My dog Charlie is a poodle, and SUPER smart. I would love to see if he could figure out this!
ReplyDeleteThe Tornado is one of my dogs' favorites. We don't even use the bone barriers though, they really trip Leo up!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun, Lottie would love to give this a try!
ReplyDeleteThat interactive toy looks really good. We have tried the Aikiou Junior slow feeder and it is great but this one is probably better because it has different difficulty levels. Love the video especially when Oz paws at the bone :D
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a cool puzzle, I almost bought my first one the other week for gmans bday but then got some busy buddy's instead. I can't believe you are almost 10 you seem like such a youngster. Great review.
ReplyDeleteThis would be perfect for my smart husky girl. She needs challenges like this.
ReplyDeleteWe have never tried a puzzle toy before. I think my dogs would love it!
ReplyDeleteMy dog played with something similar to this at a friend's house and seemed to enjoy it. I'd like for him to have his own toy to challenge him.
ReplyDeleteDigicats {at} Sbcglobal {dot} Net

ReplyDeleteI haz a Tornado and wun other toy Oz my pal…they is pawsome….we use em to feed Lola dese days cos is good for stimyoolatin her tiny brane….
ReplyDeleteGreat job Oz!! That is a challenging toy for sure. I know Ruby and Diamond would love to have a fun toy like that. They need to be kept stimulated and busy because they get bored fast and have lots of energy. This would help keep them out of trouble :)
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any fun interactive toys! Bentley needs to work on these skills!
ReplyDeleteHi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteMy Human stopped gettin' me puzzle toys years ago...you know why? I have the perfect solution and it only takes me a couple of minutes and it completely destroys the toy. Pick it up, get the balance right in your mouth, swing your head like a pitcher winding up and slam that thing into the wall!!! Treats everywhere! Of course the Human got tired of trying to clean up or repair the walls, so BOL, she learned not to put treats in puzzle toys anymore!
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
I love Nina Ottosson toys! I have the Tornado too! Lots of fun!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Pepper
