Are you all enjoying your long weekend for the Memorial Day holiday?
While you enjoy your backyard barbecues, picnics and trips to the park, etc. please be sure to take a moment to reflect and remember those members of the military who gave their lives to protect our freedom. After all, that is what the holiday is all about.
This is Ma's daddy's Purple Heart Medal...awarded by the President of the United States to those members of our military who are "wounded or killed in any action against an enemy of the United States or as a result of an act of any such enemy or opposing armed forces". The Purple Heart signifies sacrifice...either a combat death or in Ma's daddy's case, a combat wound.
Either way, it symbolizes the blood that has been shed in defense of our freedoms. Today, I remember the fallen and thank them for their sacrifice.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to remember - both of Moms parents were Military - her dad was on the Army and her Mom was a WAC and Dad's Dad was both Army and Navy and of coarse Dad is still Navy - he was in for 20 years and still class as active retired.

That is pretty cool you have purple heart. I don't know much about military stuff. My Grandpa I never met was in the army but no battles. Enjoy your weekend, I sure am ;)
