Welcome to the fourth WOOF Support blog hop and Facebook discussion! This month's theme is "WOOF Support Report" - an open-ended theme for everyone to tell us what is going on in their world.
My original post was going to be about how Ma and I are doing while we are out in the neighborhood but...I have far more exciting news! Well, at least I think it's exciting and I hope you do too.
Welcome to our WOOF Support Partner, Debora Hogan
It all started last month when my good friend, and supporter of WOOF Support, Sugar the Golden Retriever shared my "What Ma Loves Abou tMe, Her Reactive Dog" post across her social networks. One of Sugar's followers, Debora Hogan, saw my post and contacted me about how she could contribute to our group.
"First of all, Bravo!!! I love that you have a venue for Reactive Dog owners to vent and educate themselves! I currently own and operate a self serve dog wash...but was a dog trainer for 25 years prior to this."
Yes, Debora is a dog trainer, she specializes in Reactive Dogs and...she wants to help our group! And get this...she is the owner of two REHABILITATED reactive dogs and she is the one who rehabilitated them!
Debora and Bravo |
Ma had a lovely FaceTime conversation with her and she IS the real deal. She lives with her two now-rehabilitated reactive dogs, one of which she has used as a "demo" dog during her reactive dog training classes. Can you imagine a reactive dog being the dog showing everybody how to behave properly?!?
Debora provided Ma some great advice during their hour+ conversation, one of which really stuck in Ma's mind. Journaling.
Part of Debora's training class includes journaling but she encourages everyone with a reactive dog to do it. What is great is that you will capture not only what makes you react (so you can work on it)...you will also capture those times when you had a SUCCESS! We all know that training can be two-steps-forward-and-one-step-back so how nice it would be to have a record of the successful times to remind us all to stay focused on the positive.
Debora also recommended reading the book "Click to Calm" by Emma Parsons. I need to get Ma to look into that!
But wait...there's more and we need to know if you are interested!
Debora has offered to provide members of WOOF Support her training course for reactive dogs ONLINE. Now, I have done some research and have concluded that a Google+ Hangout, which allows for text chat sessions AS WELL AS video chat sessions (up to 10 people at a time), would be a good spot to hold such an online course. Google+ Hangouts can be accessed on your computer, tablet and/or your smartphone. It is compatible with both Android and Apple devices.
Of course, we would need to know how many people would be interested before we could actually start scheduling the training course. So please, leave me a comment expressing your interest (or lack thereof).
Also, please make Debora feel welcome by visiting her blog at Spotless Dog Wash - CLICK HERE to head on over.
Well, that's my WOOF Support Report for this month. I will be camping this weekend so though I will be able to read your WOOF Support posts on the iPhone, I may not be able to comment until Sunday. Please know I will be around to see how you all are doing though!
Don't forget to let me know about your interest in Debora's Reactive Dog Online Training Course!
This is the WOOF Support Blog Hop, where reactive dogs and their owners can come together to share similar experiences. Are you a reactive/fearful dog or its owner? Then please join us and share your story. The Blog Hop is open through Sunday, May 11th on my blog as well as on my co-host Wag 'n Woof Pets.
Sounds like an interesting course Oz. We are lucky as no real problem here. No worries we see you when we see you. Have a tremendous Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Keeping a journal sounds like a great idea. We don't really have a reactive dog here, but hopefully you will have enough people interested to make a good course. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just WONDERFUL, Oz. We hope that you have a Full Class.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a wonderful class for sure
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Deborah can be a great help to so many of us, I hope we can get enough interest (you already know I am interested). The fact that she has two rehabilitated dogs is so encouraging! The journaling seems like a really good idea, being able to look back could be such a big help.

I'd love to take part! What a great resource you've found in Deborah!
ReplyDeleteI just visited the blog, wow I was excited as I read about the piggies and the dogs! I bet your class will be a great success for all!
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested in the class.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a course together.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea Oz, I know I could do with a little bit of professional guidance. :-)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Welcome to WOOF, Deborah, and look forward to getting to know you better. Yes, I'm all in for a Hangout training (mostly) anytime. Let me know, please!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great idea to have the google+ hangout sessions. Although I have to say, when blogpaws did their hangout, I could NOT figure out how to get in the hangout! I could read what others were saying, but for some reason I couldn't get in the actual hangout. I am not very google+savvy!!
ReplyDeletebut I am interested in attending though!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
What a great report oz and nice to meet your new friend.
ReplyDeleteI am already sold by the fact that she recommends the book Click to Calm! That is the main book I am using in my training with Buster. I really can't recommend it enough! It is a phenomenal and helpful book that has explicit step by step directions that are so easy to reach success with.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing though, Oz! I would LOVE to do a training course online. The more knowledge we have the better! My only request would be if it could partake on a Sunday. A lot of online things like Twitter parties and such take place in the evening during the week, and I work odd/long hours and can't attend :(
Keeping a journal is a great idea, you can count me in for the training course it was nice to meet Debora as well.
ReplyDeleteSheba.
This sounds like a fantastic idea! I'd love to participate in a hangout with someone who has had such success with her rehabilitation efforts! Professional tips and advice are always welcome :)
