A Gift for Ma from The Magic Zoo

Thursday is Ma's birthday and I am so excited about the gift I got for her this year.  It is a handcrafted piece of jewelry from The Magic Zoo.

What is The Magic Zoo?

The Magic Zoo is an online jewelry store for animal lovers where artist Merry Rosenfield creates handmade animal jewelry designs.  She designs both pet and wildlife jewelry that captures the human-animal connection.

And oh, how animal designs abound at The Magic Zoo.  Merry lives and works in Florida so she has tons of inspiration right outside her window.  Her designs include critters such as butterflies, bunnies, horses, chickens, monkeys, raccoons, iguanas and turtles as well as pets like cats, dogs, guinea pigs and hamsters.  I think there is an animal design for everyone...and if you can't find what you want, Merry will accept custom orders!

The Magic Zoo Dog Jewelry Designs

OK...I am going to focus on The Magic Zoo Dog jewelry since I am a dog and since Ma's gift is one of Merry's dog designs.  Of course, there are plenty of cat designs and dog/cat combination designs for those who have multiple pets.  Seriously, you gotta check them out because they are all so cute.

Now, if I counted correctly - from Basset Hounds, Beagles and Corgis to Dobermans, Pit Bulls and Rottweilers - there are over 50 breeds of dogs represented in The Magic Zoo.  But if you can believe it, there are no Cairn Terriers.  *shakes head in disbelief* 

Thankfully, there are Westie (West Highland White Terrier) designs and anyone who knows anything about Cairns and Westies knows that Westies and Cairns were originally the same dog (that is until the people who owned the white ones wanted their dogs to be called something "special" BOL).  I found 12 different pieces of Westie jewelry at The Magic Zoo including earrings, necklaces and pins made of either pewter, sterling silver or gold that priced in a range from $18.00 US to $1,080.00 US. 

I chose the Pewter Westie Necklace for Ma because 1) the pewter made the Westie look more like a Cairn and 2) I wanted her to have a fun necklace for everyday.  I love how the design looks a lot like me!  I sometimes think it is difficult to capture a scruffy terrier in jewelry but Merry and The Magic Zoo did a great job of capturing the spirit of the Cairn Terrier (or Westie).
