Today is the 239th birthday of our United States Marine
Corps. Happy Birthday USMC!
Grand-dog was a Marine who served in the Vietnam War. He served in a forward combat position and
then as Sergeant of the Guard at the U.S. Embassy in Morocco and as a MP on a
naval ship stationed in the Sea of Japan.
He was also a weapons instructor at Camp Lejeune (where Ma was born).
Grand-dog always said "once a Marine, always a
Marine" and every year, even after he was discharged from service, he
celebrated Marine Corps Birthday. I am
keeping up the tradition and celebrating as well with one of my favorite lines
about Marines from the 1993 movie, "A Few Good Men".
Don't forget tomorrow is Veterans' Day...a day where we
honor our veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to
serve and sacrifice for the common good.
