This Senior Dog Loves a Walk in the Park

A dog is one of the remaining reasons why
some people can be persuaded to go for a walk.
-- O. A. Battista

When the weather is just right, I love going for a long walk in one of our County Parks.  Yesterday was no exception - the temperatures were in the 60s-70s, there was no humidity and the wind was blowing the downed palm fronds all over the place - so we went to the park for an early afternoon walk.  I was a very happy dog!

Oz the Terrier is happy he is a senior dog - celebrate National Senior Pet Month

We even did some training while we were there...you know, no barking like a lunatic at other dogs.  I did really well.  I am proof that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

And speaking of old dogs, did you know that November is both Adopt a Senior Dog Month and National Senior Pet Month?!?  I am definitely going to celebrate and share some of the great reasons why senior pets rock this month!  How about you?

I am joining my friends Sugar the Golden Retriever and Dachshund Nola for Black and White Sunday.

  7. Awesome walk, Oz. And no barking--proud of you :) One of mine is going to the beach today--yep, only one, because as a pack (I have 7) they're out of control. So we'll follow in your footsteps and do some no-barking, no-lunging training as well.

  14. My mom enjoys walking, but if she didn't have a dog she wouldn't walk. She doesn't walk alone, and relying on other humans never seems to work out, so dogs are the perfect walking companions. We know you enjoy walking just like we do. Happy Sunday!

  16. Ah, just as your weather is getting perfect for walks, we've had 38 degrees, windy, and cloudy today! I don't think the cold is here to stay yet though, but it's been so rainy here we haven't had many walks lately. Walks are perfect and no better than with a senior dog and working on some training at the same time!
We will definitely have to do something special this month since we have two senior dogs in the house (and two senior cats also)!

  22. A walk in the park with decent weather and a well behaved dog is my idea of a perfect Sunday afternoon. I was not aware that it's a special month for our senior canine friends - I'm definitely going to celebrate that :)

  23. Good for you training at the park! My boys really need a lesson in not barking like a lunatic at other dogs. They're both bad about that, especially Chico.
