Last year, around this time, I received my first Sleepypod Clickit Utility Harness - the first crash-tested dog safety harness to incorporate a three-point contact to absorb force in a frontal collision. I wore it on all my road tripping adventures to keep me safe while riding in the car.
I remember how it was a bit difficult for Ma to get it all set up - adjusting the tethers that connect to the child safety bars in the car and adjusting the fit of the harness. The first time Ma tried to hook me into the seat was hilarious...okay, it wasn't hilarious then, but it is now...it took what seemed like forever to get all the buckles and the seat belt in the right places. Of course, once we figured it all out, it was smooth driving from then on.
But recently my friends at Sleepypod designed a new Clickit Harness, the Clickit Sport. It is Sleepypod's next generation of dog safety harness that is smaller, lighter and easier to use without sacrificing on safety.
As you can see, the Clickit Sport (on right) is significantly smaller than my Clickit Utility. What we really like is the Clickit Sport design - it is a step-in harness not one that needs to be buckled around and about like the Clickit Utility. Sleepypod calls this revolutionary design the Infinity Loop and it eliminates the need for strength-rated steel hardware.
Clickit Sport still utilizes the three-point contact to reduce forward and lateral movement in the event of a collision or sudden stop. The Infinity Loop and the padded vest work together to distribute and reduce this force to decrease potential injury to your pet.
What's more...the Clickit Sport is super easy to use! Since the Clickit Sport does not require the use of the child safety tethers, you can quickly and easily get your dog in and out of the car. All you need to do is run the seat belt through the Infinity Loop and "click it" into its connector. The Clickit Sport is a little more flexible in allowing your pet to lie down or sit up while restrained in the car.
Like all Sleepypod harnesses and carriers, the Clickit Sport uses Pet Passenger Restraint System (PPRS) technology, which is a system designed to securely fasten pets into automobile seats. In addition, the Clickit Sport has been put through stringent safety tests including static tensile testing and dynamic crash testing. The Clickit Sport, like all other Sleepypod harnesses and carriers, passed the crash test with flying colors.
If you travel a lot with your dog in the car, then I highly recommend the Sleepypod Clickit Sport Harness. It retails on the Sleepypod website for $64.99. And let me also say...I still recommend the Sleepypod Clickit Utility Harness as well. Both are great options for keeping your dog safe while traveling in the car.
What kind of pet safety restraint do you use?

We love your new harness and we will have to tell mama to check it out! xo Chloe and LadyBug
ReplyDeleteyou look amazing!
ReplyDeletewe use the Hunter Easy Comfort (yes, it has my name LOL), it's a very good thingy but as you mentioned in your post, it's not easy to get Easy in the Easy Comfort and both Easy's in the car. My mom likes the system of the Clickit Sports what makes it easy to drive in the car with Easy :o)
ReplyDeleteEasy Rider
Now that looks great. Mom will have to check it out before we hit the road on our next va-k-shun!
ReplyDeleteGreat review Oz and good for those who travel a lot. Have a tremendous Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
I don't know what mine is called, but Mom calls it dat "Ranger's can't get in the front seat belt". Drat, cuz I really wanta drive and ride in da front but am forced to be a back seat driver.
ReplyDeleteWags,
Ranger
We have the Bamboo click and safe leads - they are adjustable leads that attach to out harness and then the seat belt buckle - we love them but sadly they stopped making them a couple of years back
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I use one from Kurgo, but I really love the look of this one too!
ReplyDeletePLUS that color suits you pal!

Great review Oz, we like our sleepypod sport too.
ReplyDeleteYou look good in anything Oz and that one is mighty fine!
ReplyDeleteWe use the Allsafe Harness ( http://mygbgvlife.com/2013/08/23/buckle-up/ ) which is made, tested, and approved in Germany, but you can get them in the US now online. Germans take safety much more seriously than the US does and on the Autobahn it has to be good, so we stick with those and Bailie has her own since she was a puppy too. The sleepypod looks nice and comfy, though.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until we get to try the ClickIt Sport. Maya alternates between wearing the ClickIt Utility and the AllSafe dog car harness. Pierson wears the Ruff Rider Roadie.
ReplyDeleteNice Oz! And looks like it comes in your favorite color :)
ReplyDeleteI use a crash tested PupSaver safety seat when I ride in the car. The Clickit Sport looks like a great option for dogs who like to ride on the regular car seat. I have always ridden in a dog car seat (ever since I was a tiny puppy), so I am nervous if I am on the regular seat. I am much more comfortable/relaxed if I am in my special seat.

The New one looks much Easier and more comfy.
ReplyDeleteWe use the ones that MOM made fur US... they velcro under our Tummy and then across our Chest... and have a "D" Ring in the back that gets Clipped with a snap to the seat belts. They are NOT high Tech... and BEAUTIFUL... butt they DO keep us SAFE and are quick and easy to get us out of Jennifer Jeep... When we get to a Store that WE want to shop... mom just clicks our walkin strings to the same D Ring and away we go...
Like the "sport" version!

Wow a sport harness. You certainly looks sporty in that.
ReplyDeleteThat sport design looks really nice. We use step in harnesses so we could step into that easily. When we go riding we use our regular harness with 16" strap that hooks into the seat. We probably need to look into something like this.
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
You look very handsome in it. I am glad you are safe.
ReplyDeleteLoveys Sasha
Dat's a smart outfit.
ReplyDeleteOz, thank you. Can you really lie down in the Sport version? I need to know that before I order one. I have had a few scares recently where I had to brake suddenly.
ReplyDeleteOz kudos to your mom for figuring that out! My mom would have been all thumbs.
ReplyDeleteWhew we are catching up with everyone my peeps were away M-W this week
