Yesterday morning was a great for a long walk! Ma and I walked all around the neighborhood and just as we got back to the corner of our street, a bird swooped by and landed in this tree.
We quietly started to walk over and sure enough, it was a hawk. We saw a hawk in our backyard only a few weeks ago. Did you know that the Native Americans believe if you are visited by a hawk that there is a message to be received and interpreted?
They also believe the hawk holds the key to higher consciousness and enlightenment. Many of the hawk's messages are about freeing yourself of thoughts and beliefs that are limiting your ability to soar above your life and gain a greater perspective. We may have to work on that.
We also have to work on Ma's photography or at least convince her that trying to get a good photo of a hawk on her cellphone is not going to happen. Here is her attempt to capture the hawk in a photo:
Now, Uncle Mikey on the other hand has been a busy, traveling photographer of late - just visiting Washington State around the Skagit River and Cascades National Park where he captured this:
Beautiful, right? Uncle Mikey is very talented - he is a photographer, graphic designer and web designer. He has a lot more eagle, other wildlife and nature, photos on his Donahue Photo Flickr Page (Click Here if you want to see more photos - the ones of the eagles are brilliant!).
Happy Wordy Wordless Wednesday!
Your hawk came out like our photos....SHE blames the cheap camera, but we all know about a tradesman blaming the tools. Do you think the hawk might be telling you to get a new, whizz bang camera?
ReplyDeleteI saw the hawk! I wonder what it was telling you ?

ReplyDeletewell done uncle mikey! it's not easy to take a bird photo, that winged guys aren't patient enough :o) but i like the hawk photo, it's like magic what we can do with a phone :o) mom took a photo of a giant owl-guy once... sadly it looked like a black lump of coal with two yellow dots :o) and the owl was not in the mood to pose again lol
ReplyDeleteeasy rider
Beware those hawks if you are a small doggie. :)
ReplyDeleteGood attempt on the eagle photo---hard when they are the same color as the tree!

ReplyDeleteOMD your uncle's Eagle photo is grrrrand... Butt in all fairness to your mom... that HAWK she snapped was HIDING in that tree... as they like to do at times... and we think she did a Fine job...
ReplyDeleteOMD buddy.... we see GRASS and GROUND... at your place... all WE have is horrid WHITE SNOW Everywhere we look. THANKS fur showing us what we MAY be lucky enough to see... in JULY or so.
It is hard to capture good bird photographs. I wouldn't even try with a phone! Obviously Uncle Mikey has the right equipment. That's a beautiful eagle shot!
ReplyDeleteWow I couldn't see him at all!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Your Uncle's photo is gorgeous! We've been having killings of these majestic birds in KS & Ark. lately. (which is totally illegal and they're hunting down the perps who did it, too.)
ReplyDeleteMy mom hates using her phone camera unless there is no other option. Some people do fairly well with it, but Mom can't make it work.
ReplyDeleteWatch out for the hawk, Oz! We saw one too the other day and I kept a very close eye on Mr. N.
ReplyDeleteOk, normally I HATE Hawks because they pick up kittens and small animals and kill them, but...after reading what you wrote" They also believe the hawk holds the key to higher consciousness and enlightenment. Many of the hawk's messages are about freeing yourself of thoughts and beliefs that are limiting your ability to soar above your life and gain a greater perspective." I might have to look at them differently and heed their message.
ReplyDeleteLove the bald eagle photo! Do you follow the blog "Sometimes Cats Herd You" ? It is darling and she takes super cool photos. Last week she had a bald eagle IN HER YARD again and she took some amazing photos!!
Have a great day!
Wow! Uncle Mike's photo is wonderful. He is very talented. Be sure to let us know what message the hawk was sent to tell when you figure it out.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pwaesome Eagle photo Oz...Your uncle is very talented!!
ReplyDeleteWe also think your Mama is very talented, she saw the hawk...our Mama always misses even seeing the birdies!!

ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
I saw your birdies, and I appreciate your efforts :) The one your Uncle took is AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteWe see some of those bigguns every once in a while!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the second photo! That first hawk was well camouflaged! *wags* - Gilligan from WagsAhoy.com
ReplyDeleteBlame the camera for a less than perfect picture, that is what Lady does. That eagle is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I live close to the Cascades. Those eagle shots are hard to get. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteEven if the photos didn't come out that good, I think it's always good to try. Even with a cell phone. It might not be as good as Mike's (awesome!) photo, but even not-the-best pix make for good stories.
ReplyDelete--Wags (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats
Holy bird seed, we would love to see that
ReplyDeleteLily & Edward
Cell phones are so convenient, but I sure wish the photos could be better. At least your Ma tried! We saw a beautiful pileated woodpecker yesterday, and I didn't even have my cell phone with me.
ReplyDeleteThat bald eagle photo is fantastic!
Dat eagle photo are pawsome!
ReplyDeleteWe see hawks pretty much everyday round here.
We see hawks occasionally in our neighborhood and at the park, mom's photos are even worse. Love the eagle! Love Dolly
ReplyDeletePhotos of birds are among the most difficult - they just refuse to sit still and smile!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI agree that your Uncle Mikey is very talented!! I always expect my phone to take National Geographic quality pics! HAHAHA!
ReplyDeleteCool that you had a hawk in your tree. I saw your uncles eagle photo on fb it is fabulous. I love eagles. We have a couple by us now that it is winter time.
