Dr. Oz the Terrier here (have you missed me?!?) reminding you that April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month.
This month is a great opportunity for pet parents to learn how to keep their pets safe and protected and healthy. You can brush up on tips from the American Red Cross and even sign up for a Pet First Aid class! However, Ma and I came across the American Red Cross' Pet First Aid app for iPhone (and Android) and it's pretty cool.
You can plug in all your pet's information as well as your vet's phone number, just in case. You can also Learn about different First Aid steps for:
- Checking ABC's (Airway, Breathing, Circulation);
- Bleeding;
- Burns;
- Choking;
- CPR; and so much more.
The App also helps you locate the nearest Pet Hospital based off your current location, so long as you have Location Services on. It will also help you locate Pet-Friendly Hotels in case of evacuation.
The App seems pretty handy, providing a pet parent with both learning opportunity as well as emergency assessment and animal hospital locations.

Mom had lots of first aid when she was a flight attendant, and she has had some dog first aid, but the app might help although she is more apt to call for help if she has her phone with her.

its always a good thing to be prepared - we just finished putting together our summer first aid kit that we always carry in the car with us

ReplyDeleteI am downloading the app now...it seems like something every pet parent should have. I took a first aid course once but it was quite a few years ago, and you kind of forget things if you never get to put them into practice (though I'm glad I haven't needed them!). Thanks for sharing, Dr. Oz!
