Starting today at 11:00 am PST, the very first Sleepover atthe Shelter will begin at the County of Los Angeles Downey Animal Care Center in partnership with Shelter Me, Bark Avenue Foundation, ABC7 and the Los Angeles Animal Care Foundation.
Sleepover at the Shelter is an innovative event to raise awareness, increase adoptions of homeless pets and raise money to provide free spay-neuter to pets in underserved communities. For 24 hours, volunteers will be staying in three separate kennels, which are fenced in play yards, at the Downey Animal Care Center. They will be interacting with dogs and promoting the shelter via social media and webcams.
The goal of this event is to raise $30,000 towards 400 free spay-neuter surgeries, microchips and vaccinations for pets. The public can pledge funds towards the number of hours a volunteer stays in the kennel just like they would pledge funds towards a Run or Walk event.
Special guest sleepover volunteers include actor Lou Wegner, Survivor contestant Rob Cesternino, Comedienne Aubrey Sweeney and Los Angeles weatherman from ABC7 News, Garth Kemp.
Sleepover at the Shelter will culminate with a fun adoption event at the Downey Animal Care Center tomorrow. Dogs, cats and rabbits will be available for adoption. Adopters will receive reduced adoption fees and special gifts from the event's corporate sponsors.

ReplyDeleteThis is a cute idea! I have done the opposite through a couple of adoption groups where I take the dog home for a sleepover for a night or two. I have never heard of a group doing something like this. Great, fun idea! And I know it will benefit a lot of dogs. Not only will it raise money and get more dogs spayed/neutered, but the dogs will love the additional company during the event!
