Cowabunga, pals! We all know it will not be me shooting the curl at a Surf Dog Competition. The only surfing I will do is alligator surfing in the pool.
However, if you live in or near San Diego, California and you like to hang 20 while riding the waves, then there is still time for you to register to participate in the Unleashed by Petco Surf Dog Competition. August 1, 2015 marks the tenth year of the competition and the second year the event is hosted by Unleashed by Petco.
Over 50 dogs are expected to participate in this year's surf event in Imperial Beach, California, adjacent to the pier. "As a staple San Diego event, we're excited to continue the local Surf Dog tradition and foster the powerful bond between pets and pet parents," said Evan Harding, Director of Marketing for Unleashed by Petco. Professional surfer and pet parent Taylor Knox will be there to judge the surf competition alongside a panel of professional surf competition judges.
While it is mainly a surfing competition, there are still plenty of other dog friendly activities to participate in at the event. There will be a beginner's agility course and off-leash play area provided by Outward Hound and a Dog Food Garden that will feature samples and coupons from Blue Buffalo, Live Free, My Perfect Pet, Natural Balance, Nature's Variety, Solid Gold, Spot Farms and Whimzees.
And dudes, there are fun things for your family too. Coronado Brewing Company will host a beer garden featuring their new Surf Dog Pale Ale and there will be a separate Kids Zone. It's a day for the whole family!
The best part...all proceeds from the event will go to the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA, who are hosting pet adoptions right there at the event.
Does anyone live in southern California? If so, do you think you will go to this dog and family friendly event? Will you register to shoot the curl?
