In my last Raw Paws Pet Food post, we talked about the difference between PREY and BARF raw diets. While many PREY fed dogs tend to be served meat still on the bone, we BARF fed dogs are served chunked or ground meat in a bowl.
Raw Paws Pet Food ground meats come two ways - in a bag or in a tube (sometimes called a roll or chub). The difference in packaging does not mean there is a difference in the meat mix. The Complete Duck packaged in the tube is still 80/10/10 (80% meat, 10% bone and 10% organ) just like the Complete Goat that is packaged in the bag.
The real difference between the 5 lb bag and the 5 lb chub is ease of portioning. Remember that when portioning 5 lbs of raw meat it must remain mostly frozen so it can return safely to the freezer. While Ma showed great feats of strength sawing through that bag of Goat, the tube of Duck was much easier for her to portion out.
As you can see, Ma just made a couple of cuts in the Raw Paws Complete Duck tube and created four multiple-day portions for me. She knows the meat will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 3 days so those portions are about the right size (give or take). Sometimes, Ma cuts daily portions from the tube which she freezes in individual baggies like in this video tutorial from Raw Paws Pet Food.
Raw Paws Pet Food Complete Duck (Ground)
Raw Paws sources its Duck from USDA inspected farms and the Duck is free run and humanely harvested. The Complete Duck does not contain added hormones and is antibiotic-free and GMO-free.
Ingredients:
Duck, Duck Bone, Duck Heart, Duck Liver, Duck Gizzard, Boneless Skinless Duck Breast, Herring Oil, D-Alpha Tocopherol
Ma noticed the Raw Paws tube grind seems finer than the grind used in the bags. This is good news for those of you who have a hard time looking at the pieces of bone and chunks of organ meat.

And how does the Raw Paws Pet Food Complete Duck (Ground) taste? Well, delicious of course! I am enjoying every last morsel.
Which would you choose - ground raw meat in a tube or in a bag?

We don't think it matters tube or bag - so long as it ends up in our bowl :)
ReplyDeleteSchooner and Skipper eat raw! I am going to try Raw Paws. They eat there raw food frozen...I know they are weird. I think maybe I will try duck for them too. Thank You for showing the pictures because it gives me an idea which one to get. In the bag ..is the whole bag and the tube frozen when it is delivered?
ReplyDeleteAll looks good to us!
ReplyDeleteI really want to try duck food with Shiner, and we are going to here real soon. I think that if I were to ever switch to raw, it would be your BARF style, Oz. I know they say raw bones are good, but I just don't think I'd feel quite right giving bones from things I've seen before. Plus, I'm not sure I'd have the freezer storage for all that right now :(
ReplyDeleteRaw looks ever so tasty.
ReplyDeleteSo you have it with quackers? Sorry, could not resist.
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
The boys are drooling at the thought! We definitely need to order some duck.
ReplyDeleteWe likes food with ducks

Interesting. Mom hates when she has to buy meat in a tube, but if we were eating raw it would make sense for ease of portioning! You have quite the farm with goats and ducks now!
ReplyDeleteAnything with duck sounds mighty good to us:) Maybe we can get Mom to give it a try. Thanks for the review.

Looks good OZ. Yes we would probably like the tube for ease of portioning too

We think the tube looks more sophisticated!
ReplyDeleteI'd eat a duck or a goat and I don't care how you serve it up just put it in my bowl.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
We just recently discovered Raw Paws Pet Food and got our first order of different proteins ~ the lamb arrived in a bag, and the chicken, beef, and duck in tubes!
ReplyDeleteMy dogs love raw duck, I have to watch gambler that he doesn't take a duck we shot and run off behind the bushes with it to snack on while hunting.
