What better day is there to discuss eco-friendly pet products than Earth Day? When I was at Global Pet Expo, I had the opportunity to visit the BeCo Pets booth and meet the innovative people there who are committed to creating some fun pet products that are good for the environment.
BeCo Pets believes the foundation of any great product is using the right materials. They select natural, renewable or recycled materials for all of their products. Many of their plant fiber plastic products, like the BeCo Bowl, BeCo Spork and the BeCo Pocket poop bag holder, are made from rice husks and bamboo, making the products sustainable to produce and biodegradable.
Rice Husk, a by-product of rice farming, is ethically sourced for both BeCo’s plant fiber plastic products as well as their rubber products. BeCo’s environmentally friendly rubber products, which include a fun line of toys, are BPA and Phthalates free.
Since Oz eats a raw diet, I have not used the BeCo Bowl for his food but it does make a great water dish. The wave design makes it easy for Oz to reach in and get a drink and the bowl is very sturdy. The label said that is was also dishwasher friendly but since they are made from natural materials, it may be best to wash it by hand. The BeCo Bowl comes in five sizes – from small enough for a hamster or bunny to big enough for a large breed dog. BeCo also makes a similar bowl for cats that has a low rim for sensitive whiskers.
Also made from the same plant fiber plastic are the BeCo Spork, for your serving needs, and the BeCo Pocket poop bag holder. When you are done with any of these products, you don’t have to throw them away…you can bury them in your yard and they will biodegrade! That may seem a little odd to do but I am tempted just to see what happens.
BeCo makes biodegradable BeCo Bags to go into their BeCo Pocket. These poop bags are quite thick compared to some other brands so you do not feel like they are biodegrading before you even get to the trash can. If you are an eco-conscious pet parent, than you know the bags I am talking about.
When we recently had our dog-friendly day at Oleta River State Park, I took the BeCo Travel Bowl for Oz’s water breaks. The Travel Bowl is made from natural rubber and silicone and to me it feels much thicker and sturdier than some other collapsible bowls we have used. You can open it fully or half way, depending on how much water you need for your dog, which I like.
BeCo eco-friendly pet products are better for pets and better for the environment. You can visit BeCo Pets website to see the full lines of dog and cat products for eco-friendly Fetch, Eat, Poop and Sleep.
Happy Earth Day to all.
