During our weekend adventures we found a unique, hidden gem in the heart of Wilton Manors, Florida – Lola’s Place. It is a gated artist community where you will find an eclectic mix of creativity from culinary creations to antiques and artwork and every inch of it is dog-friendly.
According to Aunt Mary Lou, who lives in Wilton Manors, the land that is now Lola’s Place was once a nursery and/or lumber yard. Not that you would ever realize that walking through the yard today. There are beautiful hand-painted sidewalks and art and antiques on display everywhere you look.
It is so dog-friendly, that dogs can even go into all of the buildings including the three dining establishments and the building with Lola’s Market. Inside the Market, I was greeted by a very nice lady who is the owner of Coastal Diva’s. She sells paintings by a local artist as well as her own, hand-painted shabby-chic furniture that definitely has a South Florida flair.
Coastal Diva’s specializes in custom dog beds. We love how she repurposes old furniture so that dogs can have cozy beds that double as real furniture. Ma even saw a piece that she swears was the end table her grandmother had in the living room. Although it was repainted in fun colors, Ma recognized how the doors on the table would open to the compartment inside.
We really enjoyed wandering among the art and antiques at Lola’s Place. The Mexican Café had yummy snacks as well. The nice lady at Coastal Diva’s said they are hoping to start a Yappy Hour and we would definitely go back for that! She took our email address so she can invite us to the very first one.
If you are ever visiting Fort Lauderdale, you should definitely give Lola’s Place a visit. Wilton Manors is not far from Fort Lauderdale and it has a great Main Street as well with fun shops, restaurants and cafes.
Do you have a dog-friendly artist community where you live?
