Smaller dogs are at greater risk of chocolate poisoning because they can more easily ingest a toxic dose relative to their weight…
The number of calls in 2015 to the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center from owners whose pets ingested human food was 14,600…
The peeps don't eat candy or give it out. Darn, I've never had any.

ReplyDeleteExcellent PSA! Believe it or not...we really do not get trick or treaters at our house because we live on a pretty rural road. We are always careful to keep chocolate UP on the counter and out of little paws' reach!

ReplyDeleteGreat PSA, Oz. We get so few trick or treaters these days that Mom is thinking of cutting her candy purchase way low this year. All the more green papers for dog treats, that's what I say.

ReplyDeleteWe pinned....even though we're on top of this, we know many people are not aware. We have sweets around our house quite frequently anyway, so we know the drill! But when we got our first dogs, there was a lot we didn't know, so it's important to get the info out there for everyone!

Thank you Oz, for an excellent PSA. My household includes a dog and some pet rats. And, we are always very careful with chocolate because it's not good for our dog, but our pet rats benefit and enjoy their chocolate. In fact, last night we enjoyed some yummy hot cocoa, and Adam (pet rat) really enjoyed his serving. Bittle, our dog, didn't get any.
ReplyDeleteI've seen some PSAs that state that chocolate isn't good for pets, and that's not true. Pet rats do not have the toxicity issue that dogs have. Also, as you've wisely shown, it depends on the weight of your dog.
