Happy National Hugging Day! This is a day when you are to offer a hug to someone. Whether you hug a family member, friend or even your dog (if he/she likes that sort of thing), the benefits of a hug are the same.
When we hug, our bodies release oxytocin also known as the “love hormone” or the “cuddle hormone”. Oxytocin is the bonding chemical that helps new mothers bond with their newborns. It also decreases levels of the stress-hormone cortisol.
All of that means that a hug can help relieve anxiety and stress, possibly lower blood pressure as well as help us feel more connected to those we are hugging. So we say…get your hugs on today!
