As a tradition for over 50 years, National Small Business Week allows us all to celebrate our local small businesses and the contributions they make to our communities. This week is a great week to bypass the big box stores and support the local small shops and businesses in your community.
This post is sponsored by Stella and Chewy’s. We are being compensated for spreading the word about Stella and Chewy’s products and social media campaigns but Oz the Terrier only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers.
Oz kicked-off Small Business Week with a visit to our local pet store. Whenever we need food for Oz, we shop at two small, local pet stores since the big box stores by us do not sell raw food brands.
What we love about shopping small is that we can score big! The staff has gotten to know us well and they try really hard to stock the brands and recipes we buy. Oz knows the store well and can find his Stella and Chewy's dinner patties, Meal Mixers and Superblends Meal Mixers without any help from me.
When we first started shopping for raw food at both of these small stores, they carried mostly chicken, turkey and beef. Since Oz is allergic to poultry, it was difficult for me to rotate proteins. Then one day, I just asked about the limited choices of proteins and the staff said they would be happy to order unique proteins if they knew customers like me would purchase them.
That is one of the great things about small businesses like our local pet stores –
they really care and focus on what their customers want.
Do you frequent small businesses in your community? Do you prefer your small, local pet store over the big box store?
I agree... the people of small stores care for their customers... we enjoy this service too :o)
ReplyDeleteOne ringy dingy…two ringy dingy. Have I reached the party to whom I am speaking? Ozzie The Great unfortunately we have no small pet stores by us. The Big chains have taken over. The next community over which is the Hyde Park type has one but dog do they clean out the wallet if we shop there. We would shop small and local if it were available. Lookin good Oz. I keep waiting to see your commercial.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a friend

We buy from Chewy.com and we buy from our local stores. And I have had Stella and Chewy's meal mixers and they are awesome!
ReplyDeleteWe buy treats, litter and Fancy Feast from Chewy but some of our foods come from a local shop. They only sell foods that aren't in big box stores so don't carry our Fancy Feast which we love. We're not fans of raw or dry foods no matter how much Mommy wants us to like it. Isabella has no teeth either so that makes it difficult to eat some of those foods.
ReplyDeleteWe try to keep those small businesses in business too

We have a very favorite locally own pet store called Unleashed. Mom comes home from there smelling most unusual too.

We luv to visit our local pet stores!
ReplyDeleteMom rarely goes to pet stores as it is easier and cheaper to order online. There are a few stores that have small pet sections that are fun to visit, though.
ReplyDeleteI agree, people who are small business owners are always eager to help you out, the customer service is wonderful. When possible, we always try and support small and local businesses.
ReplyDeleteWe often shop at the small pet store close to our home. I love supporting local businesses.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a decent small pet store in our area, and we don't have the big box pet stores either! Therefore, I do most of my shopping online; though we do shop at our local feed & supply store for some things.
